The biggest gift that MLLS has given me is the agency to begin the work of healing (myself and planet). I now have a sense of peace, knowing that I will spend my life on this worthy goal. ~ Cole Iafolla, spring & fall apprentice 2024
The Maine Local Living School Apprenticeship is:
-
An eight-week, zero-cost, work exchange-based immersion in ecological living, permaculture design, and environmental education.
-
A re-skilling opportunity; a place to gain competencies and confidence to power “The Great Turning.”
-
An experience in community living: an opportunity to be a part of a web of human and ecological relationships that make life possible.
-
A hands-on practicum for outdoor and place-based educators who wish to use place-based and subsistence activities as an integrating context for all subjects.

Sponsor an Apprentice!
This powerful 8-week learning opportunity is equivalent in contact hours to a semester at college or a gap year program but is offered as a work exchange, no money changing hands. Many apprentices have said that this financial accessibility was critical for them to be able to participate. Your support will help us continue to offer this program at no cost to apprentices.

Currently the Apprenticeship is subsidized through our other programs. Your sponsorship helps us:
-
House and feed apprentices
-
Invest in deepening apprentices' education with supplemental learning opportunities such as:
-
Field trips to other farms, organizations, homesteads and outdoor education centers
-
Service learning opportunities in the local community
-
Academic resources
